sunday safari

April 08, 2018 by Brittany Emery

It's a full week and weekend, backed up to another full week and weekend next here in ever after emery land. We also livened up this weekend with another flat tire on those delightful Indianapolis potholes, but hey, it could be worse, right? Next week is a short work week, and although we'll be busy heading out of town, we're looking forward to a little time away.

I love these black pants that are a perfect comfortable crepe work pant, but paired with a graphic tee, camo topper, and some Converse, they easily transition to weekend wear. Zebras have always been one of my favorite animals [+ animal prints], so I was so excited to stumble upon this Sol Angeles tee.

We hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine this weekend!

reality of spring

April 03, 2018 by Brittany Emery

I keep saying I'm ready for spring to hit Indiana, but I have come to the conclusion, this is spring in the midwest. At least it's been in the 40s-50s, we've seen the sun a couple times, and it snowed on Easter, but we live in the midwest, and this is the reality of spring.

So let the layers continue. And in real life, I would also wear my purple coat over this again if I was going anywhere more than ten steps from the car.

This jean jacket is one of my favorite pieces for spring because it pretty much goes with everything. I have a second one that is a little more tailored, while this one is the perfect oversized boyfriend style. A little bright color pop from this lightweight sweater, which I love for wearing casually, but it will also be easy for work. These booties though... I highly recommend. The leather is so soft and comfortable, and I love that the heel is painted metallic as well for a much more cohesive piece.

But the reality of spring in the midwest is that we're really just looking forward to summer.

gallery pastry shop

March 31, 2018 by Brittany Emery

I'll be honest, I was actually looking up a different place when I stumbled upon the Gallery Pastry Shop. I was so excited to check this place out and it made for a super fun shoot for Anthro Indy. It's such a little hidden gem off the beaten path (literally a hop, skip, and a jump from the Monon) in Broad Ripple. The decor is so unique and it feels like a transportation right out of Naptown. Also, this latte is amazing.

One way to play with prints, is to add texture. Even though this blouse is plain ivory, the lace creates more interest than a simple solid. Printed pants in a variety of silhouettes are just the thing for transitioning into spring, and very on trend this year. I can't wait for some warmer temps for all the dresses, but this look still feels feminine and polished.

a coat of spring

March 24, 2018 by Brittany Emery

While there are currently several inches of fluffy white snow coating the Indianapolis area this weekend, I thought I would share a different (and more enjoyable*) kind of coat the last week of March.

It's so challenging to dress for spring when all you want to wear are all the warm bright floral prints now, but unfortunately for those of us located in the north, we have to layer up to maintain all of our extremities. Enter my obsession with this coat I bought for our New York excursion a couple weeks ago.

First of all, PSA: the best time to buy coats is at the end of the season, after Christmas, when all of the winter apparel is going on sale. Second, looking for spring colors will help transition seamlessly while still maintaining the necessary layer of warmth. I have included a few of my favorite options below in case we still have another storm ahead of us, or temperatures below 65 degrees... Because let's be honest, this is what we're dealing with.

*Full disclosure: Although I am not necessarily enthusiastic about having snow over sunny warm weather, I have actually kind of been looking forward to this storm because it means a day inside with the fire running, snuggling with my puppy, and savoring some quality time with my hubby while we have a Netflix marathon. This is why I have a cute coats, ok?

**Also PSA sneak peek as I'm working on my NYC travel guides: Joe & The Juice has killer coffee. And cute cups. Next time I definitely want to try a juice!

spring florals

March 18, 2018 by Brittany Emery

"Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking."

This has to be one of my all-time favorite lines from one of my favorite movies. I might have to play it now while I'm writing this just because typing that got me all excited. If anyone can name that movie, leave it in the comments!

But really, I love florals any time of the year, although their re-appearance in apparel mark the first signs of spring budding on the horizon. This is always the hardest part of the season in the Midwest because it's still chilly, and everyone is sooo over winter and ready to bust out all the spring-wear. That's what I love about this floral moto jacket: it's such a perfect layering transitional piece. All the florals, and it's actually a jacket you can wear over a long sleeve, with jeans, and slim enough to pair under your coat, as I did in reality when we shot this day in NYC.

What are your favorite signs that spring is coming (or here if you have the privilege to live south of the Mason-Dixon line)?
