Lily & Sparrow: 90s babe

October 28, 2018 by Brittany Emery

So no one told you life was gonna be this way….. ch ch ch ch.

Doesn’t this look just scream Rachel Green? I feel like I can totally see her walking into Central Perk fresh from Ralph Lauren or following a bad date. So maybe this is a little more early 2000s Rachel than 90s, but I’m sticking with it. I love a good midi dress; however, they’re usually not the most flattering for my body type. I think with this lightweight sweater dress being more sleek, I was able to pop on a chunky heel and work these 90s vibes.

I feel like if I were a Friends character, I would for sure be Rachel. Does any female ever want to be anyone else? It’s so funny watching the series back now too because the styles have completely come full circle. Every outfit she wears I’m all “girl where did you get those mules?!” Friends is still one of my all time favorite shows. A lot of their issues may have been solved with cell phones, but the writing and character development are still unparalleled, 14-24 years later.

mustard monday

October 22, 2018 by Brittany Emery

Ok so I lied, maybe berry isn’t my favorite color for fall. It’s mustard. What was I thinking? It’s at least the warm color family, to match the changing leaves, ok?

The key for mustards/yellows is figuring out what shades work for your skin tone. Not all can dote the same sunshines. I absolutely adore the complementary embroidery on this babydoll dress, and the scallops and hem details are perfection. This is why I love Anthropologie. Details, details, details.

But I did pair a berry shoe, so it all comes back around, right?

gal meets glam: a berry to remember

October 14, 2018 by Brittany Emery

Shades of berries and reds topped my priority list for fall colors this year, but I love the twirl factor of this dress. The material is luxurious, and honestly I don’t know if I have ever owned a red dress before, although I felt super glam (no pun intended) gallivanting around SoHo shops in this feminine frock.

It’s no secret I’m a sucker for the Gal Meets Glam Collection, and deciding on which dress to bring to fashion week was certainly no simple feat. The August dresses really started to bring the transition to the season, and the September dresses that arrived may be my favorite line yet, with the October collection coming this week. It’s getting more challenging to narrow down which piece to grab. I’m loving this beautiful print, this floral, and this plaid. I feel like I say each launch is my favorite, but they just keep getting better and better! It doesn’t hurt that fall is the best, but these dresses have me giving all the heart eyes.

Julia also designed her first jackets (hello Jackie O, love this color) and separates (and petites!) with this September Collection. I’m obsessed with this tweed number, and would love to pair the topper. It’s an investment, no doubt, but as a classic silhouette and fabric, it will last from year to year.

SoHo is one of my favorite areas of the city, with its cast iron architecture and cobblestone streets. Each neighborhood in New York contains its own charm on every corner and street, and as much as I have explored different areas and contemplated each place I would live, this trip made me rank SoHo high on the list. Obviously, the fashion and shops are top of the line, but I enjoy in the evening, once the stores all close, it gets a little quiet, with a lingering soft magical allure. I also adore NoLita, which seems to have all my favorite eateries, so naturally a ritzy residence in SoHo would be wildly convenient.

Some day…

lily & sparrow: fall for ivory sweaters

October 12, 2018 by Brittany Emery

I could basically live in ivory sweaters through the fall and winter, and this Lily & Sparrow balloon sleeve installment is certainly no exception. This sweater paired with a trendy fringed ankle denim boosts the appeal of an All-American look. I feel like I say it all the time, but it is truly all in the details. The older I get, the more I realize that I am a creature of comfort, and these little details are what make a look that is otherwise fairly simple really pop. A colorful umbrella in the rain in New York City certainly doesn’t hurt either.

working this monday like...

October 08, 2018 by Brittany Emery

Statement jacket. Paperbag pants. Red boots. Feeling fierce this Monday like ay-oh.

These pants are so soft, and this won’t be the last time I tell you statement pants may be my favorite trend for fall. It’s no secret I have this thing for cool jackets, and I hate to say it, but I think it’s getting worse. I feel like I have bought so many jackets this season, and I’m just not mad about it. I definitely don’t hate this one. It’s already gotten so much wear, which honestly does make me feel better about my obsession.

Fall has always been my favorite season, especially for fashion, but the last several years I’ve felt like summer came and went and I was left holding on and grasping for slow transitional pieces and pairings. This year I feel like I got to actually experience summer, even though it still flew by, and NYFW absolutely catapulted me into the all fall looks. The unfortunate part now is the Midwest weather has been completely uncooperative. Like where are my 65 degrees at, yo? Thankfully, it appears we may finally have some cooler days on the horizon.

I finally headed to my first football game of the season last weekend (how did I make it almost the entire month of September?), we already went to the pumpkin patch, and I am ready to adventure to the apple orchard. Caramel apples are for sure my favorite fall treat. Now if only this season would slow down a little, because we have a lot to cram before we’re shut in by snow.
